An inquiry based astronomy course for high ability students.

About this event

This term Discovery will be hosting an interactive online workshop session for high-ability students and those seeking extension in Grades 3-6.

This free online course will give students the resources, skills and agency they need to take control of their education. The 90minute session starts with a trip through the solar system led by a Discovery science communicator. During this initial 30-45minutes the Discovery Science Communicator will gauge the student interests, knowledge and experience with astronomy so as to tailor the rest of the program to their needs and interest. From there our science communicator will provide students with a cheat sheet of codes and keys that can be used to navigate and control the program. The students will, with support and guidance from our science communicator, begin to learn to control and run the program themselves.

Students will also be encouraged to think critically and seek answers to their questions as they arise by seeking out trusted sources. As students gain confidence and knowledge they will be encouraged to take on the role of science communicator and share their knowledge and guide other by sharing screens. By the end of the session students will have a new resource they continue to learn from and share with others.

As this is inquiry based learning what students learn will be shaped by their curiosity but to get an idea of some of the MANY curriculum links students often cover in this class head to our website www.discovery.asn.au

You can sign up your students by selecting the appropriate ticket option and filling out the details.
