Minibeasts in the Garden for National Science Week
Aug 20 @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm
Celebrate National Science Week at Long Gully Community Garden with the support of the Discovery Science & Technology Centre and Bunnings!
About this event
We are working together to provide a fun hour and a half programs for children 3-6 years old and their families and significant adults.
Activities will link gardening with the world of minibeasts – insects and other critters which are vital to growing our food.
There will be opportunities for hands-on learning for all ages.
We’ll be holding a minibeast treasure hunt – discovering diversity in compost and soil, and inviting visitors to create their own ultimate minibeast.
Another activity will talk about the importance of pollinators in the garden, and encourage visitors to plant some pollinator attracting seeds in a pot to take home.
For visitors who like a quiet space, there’ll be a minibeast library of books at different levels about minibeasts and gardening.
And for the adventurous, take minibeasts in the garden to the next level and learn about how different cultures include insects in their diets – and try some yourself!
And we’ll encourage children to explore minibeast diversity – using magnifying glasses to see how unique minibeasts are.
