New Planetarium

The universe is within reach…

The plans for a new Bendigo Planetarium will create a modern high-tech and inspiring facility sure to capture the imagination and inspire wonder and curiosity.

For the past 27 years, the Discovery Science and Technology Centre has been providing hands on learning experiences to inspire curiosity in people of all ages. Discovery is uniquely placed to breakdown barriers to STEM participation to give people the opportunity and confidence to be active engaged citizens and to nurture the next generation of confident, creative thinkers.

With a state-of-art dome theatre and high-resolution laser projectors, the new planetarium will be capable of screening a huge range of mind-blowing educational and creative shows about the body, our earth and the universe.

The great news is that we have already secured half of the $650,000 needed to complete this first stage in our renewal from two very committed partners:

Department of Jobs, Precincts & Regions

 City of Greater Bendigo

And some incredible local organisations and individuals

However, we still need between $300,000-$350,000 by March 2O23.

We need your support to help to support STEM education in regional Victoria.

We are ready for take-off and with your help, we will bring the cosmos to life in Bendigo like never before.

Mission To Inspire and Nurture Scientific Curiosity Strategic Priorities STEM for ALL We want to be a leader in the active effort to break down barriers to be part of STEM. We want access for all and a chance for everyone to give it a go. We want to see every group from the community walking around and engaging with the exhibits and online labs and workshops. We see a cultural shift in peoples’ beliefs such that they have a right to be part of STEM and know that it’s ok for everyone to ask a question and be curious about the world around us. Discovery Renewed We want a Discovery Science and Technology Centre that provides experiences where ideas collide. We have new exhibits that change regularly, where art and science come together for families – post-da Vinci. We want to give the community new ways to interact with science outside of the Discovery Centre. We have opened the doors of the Discovery Science and Technology Centre to community groups, parents and guardians, post-secondary institutions, businesses, to engage with the STEM community in a way that is meaningful. We want to show people that science, technology, engineering and mathematics matters through revitalised and renewed experiences
