Brick Motion

Get ready to build, spin and animate with LEGO® bricks! Join the Bendigo Art Gallery Learn team at the Discovery Centre and step into the world of kinetic artist Alex Sanson, whose inspiring artwork and bespoke zoetropes bring sculpture to life. Brick Motion puts the “A” in STEAM, blending art, science and motion to introduce students to early animation through hands-on experimentation. Participants design and construct mini zoetropes, perfect for budding filmmakers, engineers and creative builders.

Students will explore how motion and stroboscopic effect create animation, investigate the mechanics of zoetropes, and apply STEAM thinking by designing and constructing with LEGO®. Through hands-on building they will develop fine motor skills, spatial reasoning, problem-solving and creative confidence, while experimenting, testing and refining ideas. Collaboration, iteration and playful engineering support deep engagement and connect art, science and movement in a meaningful way. Brick Motion is supported by the Victorian Government through the Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series (VCES).
